Basic Passing Routes

Passing routes help the quarterback and receivers get on the same page–the receivers know where to go and the quarterback knows when and where to look for an open teammate.

The direction of the route depends on where the receiver lines up relative to the ball.

Routes are strategically pieced together into plays. We will cover this more in a future article.
